It arrived shortly after I got home from work. I heard the sputtering of a big truck in the driveway. As I peeked out the window, I saw a courier leaving a large box on my door stoop. Woo hoo, Christmas is here!

I ran to see what it was. Removing the label, the words ‘Gift Message’ caught my eye. When I opened it, it read, “May your holiday be filled with all you love . . . all year long. Love, Sis

It was from my sister! I felt the lovable hugs coming . . .

“Yum,” I thought. She always gives me the most creative Christmas gifts and something yummy to munch on, during this time of year. She is full of thoughtful gift ideas!

And, I couldn’t wait ‘til Christmas!

I had to open it right then!

Inside the box was a beautiful Christmas basket and it was filled to overflowing with sweet and savory goodies and treats. I felt like I did, when we were growing up . . . when the stockings were hung by the chimney with . . .

I didn’t have to worry about stocking my pantry with holiday goodies. I could enjoy these mouthwatering treats at my leisure. And, I might even share it with … him …

Maybe!

Well, it took about a half second for me to giggle and turn that thought into a, “Yes, I will share!”

Who was I kidding, not me . . . I was in love with this guy.

He was just as anxious to see me, as I was him. On the phone, he said he had something he wanted to ask me. Of course, I was thrilled, as well as anxious . . . Because I had been anticipating the big question to come popping out of nowhere.

In a festive mood, I turned the lights down low. I was looking good in my new red dress. And my Christmas basket, that I was going to share, was sitting under the tree glimmering in the flickering lights.

The home fires were burning and I was as happy as I could be.

When the doorbell rang, I rushed to open it and there stood a giant plush polar bear with a red ribbon tied around his neck. The ribbon held a gift message that said, “Open Now!”

Reading the message aloud, I heard myself saying, “I love you with all my heart and promise to take care of you and love you the rest of my life. Will you marry me, Stacey?”

Daniel peered from behind the teddy bear, his smile meeting mine. He was so excited for the answer that he couldn’t wait for me to say, “Yes!” He let go of the plush bear making its mark in the fresh fallen snow. He swooped me into his arms, as I began saying,

“Yes, yes, yes!”

As we walked through the front door, everything seemed brighter. The crackling fire, twinkling lights and a beautiful Christmas basket, that was waiting for me to share.

The sweets were more delicious than usual. The smooth silky heavenly tastes was melting in my mouth and making me want for more . . .

The satisfied feeling of having a part of her with me on that day was scrumptious, too. My mind was flooded with happy memories of her. And with each distinctive taste, I had time to reflect on how much she meant to me.

A Halloween Gift Basket Ghosts Pumpkins and Halloween Gifts

The Haunted Mansion

“Boo,” said the little ghost, as she peeked around the corner. That morning a Halloween gift basket had arrived for her from Aunt Ginger. And it was overflowing with Halloween gifts and treats, just for her!

Being doted over made her day a whole lot better, since she had broken her arm early that morning. Smiling she sunk her teeth into a chocolate taffy bar. Yum, she thought, as the chocolaty gooey taffy swirled ‘round in her mouth.

Mom had said that she shouldn’t go out trick or treating that evening, because of her broken arm. It was a good thing, because she was a bit nervous about falling again.

Pulling her ghost costume over her head, she dropped it on the floor. She had a plan of action that would make her day even better. Emptying out the wonderful gifts from her Halloween gift basket, she began filling it with the treats she and her mom had made for trick or treats. She would open the door and one-handedly hold out the gifts for each spooktacular guest to grab a handful.

Then something unusual happened, as she bit down on her taffy bar, her upper front tooth . . . just POPPED out, sticking to the uneaten taffy bar.

“Mom,” she cried, “My tooth is gone!”

Mom came running to see what the commotion was about and there she saw her little girl sitting in the floor with Halloween gifts surrounding her. “Sweetie, what is wrong?” asked mom. When Tiffany looked up, mom could see that the strange occurrence was a shock to her daughter.

“You’re growing up, Tiffany,” mom exclaimed. “Remember, we talked about Dad pulling your tooth out, well, now it is all over! You don’t have anything to worry about, sweetie. Just enjoy your Halloween gift basket and the kids who are coming to trick or treat this evening.”

Being toothless gave mom an idea. She swooped up Tiffany’s ghost costume, that she had made out of an old sheet, grabbed the red and yellow food coloring, vinegar, a spatula and a bucket of hot water.

Swirling the fabric round and round, Tiffany could see how this was going to work. Mom wrung the sheet out hung it outside for to dry.

Once dry, mom painted a toothless smile on the pumpkin, cut some armholes out and had Tiffany slip it on over her head. Adding the final touches, she stuffed it with wadded up newspaper to make it look big and plump.

The doorbell rang and Tiffany jumped up to grab her Halloween gift basket, holding the treats out with one hand, she smiled, wishing the kids a fun night out.

Halloween Gift Baskets the Spooktacular Trick or Treat Gifts

Lights dimmed, I peeked from behind the drape to satisfy my curiosity. The chilly autumn evening was filled with Spooktacular events. I could make out funny and scary images of ghosts, goblins, ballerinas and butterflies lining the streets and alleys.

Their pumpkins were filled to the brim with Halloween treats and goodies. Reaching into my Halloween gift basket, I pulled out a Munster Gummy Pop, hoping it would last awhile.

Next door, ghostly sounds shook the neighbor’s house. I could hear screams and laughter coming from within the haunted house. It was sounding as though a mild earthquake had made its way through the neighborhood. The streets were alive with people milling about, knocking on every door.

Still spying, I reached into my Halloween gift basket, peeling back the paper of a chocolate bar. I was hoping to find the Fruit flavored Test Tube brains, but my fingers failed me.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. What was this?

I had my lights off!

I didn’t want to share any of my Halloween gifts.

My sister must have known I would do this. I’m sure that’s why she wrote on the gift message,

“Share!”

Um, the bell would not stop ringing.

Must I answer the door?

Then I heard a shrill voice say, “Trick or Treat.”

I clasped my Halloween gift basket tightly to my chest and pulled the door slightly ajar. Through the crack, I could see two little butterflies, teeth chattering from the cold and another person standing in the background.

I looked at them and then back at my creative gift basket of treats and goodies. Um, this was hard for me. . .

Then I remembered something else my sister had said in her gift message, when I received my Halloween gift from her. I saw the fruit flavored Test Tube brains and fingers go from my basket into their pumpkins, landing right in the middle of a heap of candy.

I just knew that they would run home pouring their candy out on the floor, counting every piece, while tasting this and that. Just the same way I did, when I received my Halloween gift basket from Sis.

Birthday Baskets - A Mixture of Creative Birthday Presents for Her

I hoped she was dreaming. She said that she had overheard one of the people at work say, “I hope that for every candle on your cake you get a wonderful surprise.”** Little did she know that we had had two birthday baskets sent to her – just for the surprise of it!

A Get Well Basket in a Pantry Full of Thoughtful Gift Ideas

Summer colds are coming around the corner.

Last week, my husband said, “I ache. Achoo!”

Ah-oh, bring on the liquids and Echinacea and BUY him some chicken noodle soup.

One of things most generally found in a get well basket is a crossword puzzle book, word search or various other entertaining gifts that keep the mind busy for a long -- long time. He can keep your wellness wishes right beside them, just in case he needs some company ... while you, the caregiver, is out and about.

I remember feeling like Alice that day with all six of the Brady kids...SICK. And it was time to practice on that homemade chicken noodle soup -- if I were to honor him and get him well quick!

From my pantry and refrigerator came flour, eggs, raw chicken, carrots and celery. I’ve got to tell you, that making those noodles was quite the experience . . . By the end of the day...my hair had this white pasty glue like stuff in it and I smelled like eggs.

My bifocals were a little lopsided after that. And I'll never know what happened to that tiny screw, when my glasses came tumbling down into the get well soup.

Dragging himself to the kitchen, my husband asked me if it had snowed in the kitchen. Ha!

Enuff said about that day!

Next time, I'll just buy him a can of chicken noodle soup.

It comes ‘ready made’ in a get well basket. hehe I won't even have to attempt making gourmet crackers, because the extra special buttery pretzels will do. This Book Gift Basket was a Great Graduation Gift Idea

My niece, Marcie, is graduating from nursing school and it’s one BIG highlight in her life. She was so excited when she made this remark, "For the first time - in along time - I can relax and read for pleasure."

Now, that got me to thinking . . .

What would she like for a graduation gift? If I selected our Barns & Noble book gift basket, I could add a $25 gift card. She not only would receive the gift card, but she would get the snacks that make cozying up with a good book - - GOOD.

Thinking aloud, I thought, this gourmet basket is:

It’s funny how life works sometimes.

All my life I enjoyed gift giving.

On the eve of April 21, 2010 I told you that I would tell you the story about the alarming and eventful night of March 14, 2010. I had spent the afternoon writing about birthday baskets for GiftBasketJewels.com and had just submitted the article to EzineArticles.com, when suddenly we knew something was wrong… Something frightfully wrong.

Strangely, the fan on the wood burning stove went silent. A pop-up window warned me that I no longer had internet service. Being out of the ordinary, I quickly checked the status of the HughesNet modem in my office. It, too, was off.

But the overhead lights were still glowing.

Taking a deep breath I turned the television on. Upon seeing it search for a satellite signal, my husband and I ran out the back door and down the steps to see what was going on.

I heard him say, “God Almighty, our house is on FIRE!” As I looked up, I saw flames spiking out of control in the upper southeast corner of our home. Smoke was boiling from under the door of the adjacent greenhouse.

Trying to get our wits about us, we both started to run for water hoses. Instead, my husband hollered, “Call 911!”

In what seemed like slow motion, I ran back up the steps to my office and dialed 911, exclaiming, “Our HOUSE is on FIRE!”

Following protocol, the operator asked me for my address, while at the same time relaying the message to the authorities. I then heard her say, “Ma’am, we have someone on the way.”

I exclaimed that I had to go. I had to go help my husband put out the fire. But she said, “Ma’am, I need you to stay on the line.”

In the next breath, I told her, “Our house IS on fire! I NEED To GET O-U-T!” She agreed in an instant. I suppose with so many cell phones being used today, that one might think I was standing outside.

When I ran back out and down the stairs the fire had jumped to the garden area, which is about 50 feet away and the lawn was burning back toward the house. Racing to the garden, I reached for a water hose that is always there, but my husband had readied 450 planters for the trees he had coming from the Forest Service and I couldn’t find it.

The only thing I could think was that the hose was connected to the soaker hoses or watering system for the trees. I ran to the west side of the garden, when I saw someone through the slits in the garden fence. I screamed, “H-E-L-P us, our house is on FIRE!”

The police officer ran to the garden area, where I was desperately was trying to loosen a hose from the watering system for the trees. Finally! I shoved the hose into the policeman’s hands and followed it back to the facet, where I turned it on full blast.

We thought we had that fire under control. By that time, it was sheer panic, because that little fire was near an electrical pole and a wooden shed, where we keep extra garden planters.

As I looked up, I saw a volunteer firefighter run across the lawn toward the southeast corner of our home with a water hose. I then left the fenced area of our yard and moved toward our 5th wheel in hopes of finding our cats alive and well.

Frightened, the cats had conjugated under the 5th wheel and were staring at me with eyes as large as saucers. But, all were accounted for, including my husband and me.

Fire trucks began pulling into the yard. I could hear people yelling and the sounds of crackling wood in the background. Neighbors were beginning to come to our aid, as the winds kicked up to around 25 to 30 miles/hr.

The firemen worked long and hard for five hours, as I stood shivering and watching our world go up in a boil of fire and smoke. I reached for my husband’s hand and could feel defeat emitting from him. He had tried so desperately to save our home. He had worked relentlessly, until a policeman ordered him to abandon his position. And even then, he wanted to stand his ground and save our home.

It was 10:30 P.M. when the five attending fire departments left our side. We then looked it over and finally retreated to our 5th wheel, where we fell sound asleep under the warmth and comfort of our new home.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

You may ask, what does St Patrick's Day have to do with Easter? Think about friends and family gatherings and celebrating life's happy occasions together. Can you think of anything better than being surrounded by the people you love you, when a holiday or special event comes around?

These events bring people together for celebrations filled with lots of love, laughter and fun. And this means...happy memories are being stored for future thoughts that bring a smile.

What are most your favorite memories of Easter, either now or when you were a child?

Mine were of the Easter bunny baskets, Easter egg hunts and family picnics. I can remember back to when I was three years old and the pretty little green dress I was wearing. The sky was blue, the sun was bright, the grass showing green and my cousins were running in every direction, looking for beautiful colored eggs.

I was so little, that my uncle came and helped me, while the rest of the grownups got the picnic set up and ready to eat the wonderful bites of goodness that comes from traditional home cooked holiday meals. I'm sure I liked the chocolate Easter rabbits more than any of the delicious foods.

I don't remember getting a plush bunny, duck, or chickie. Probably because we lived in the country. I think coloring the eggs was as much fun as looking for them. Even when my children were young, I enjoyed helping them dye the eggs, hide them and later help them eat them.

While these events did occur, I’m withholding names to protect the innocent, such as friends and spouses.

One thing lead to another and that’s all it took for several of them to tell me their stories.

I’ve chosen two of their reactions and one of my own to share with you today. And to let you know, we all laughed and agreed that we hoped we weren’t sounding too much like babies (even though that’s what we felt like, when we were sick.)

When she was 28 years old, she had her tonsils removed, two small children and big responsibilities. She still remembers how painful it was. She said that it was difficult for her to take care of herself those first three days, much less two little babies.

Another friend had gone to the doctor and was told her she was on the verge of pneumonia. Having three small children, she was counting on her husband’s help for a couple of days. Her husband announced that a friend was depending on him to go fishing with him and he left her in a lurch.

She said she felt helpless for a couple of days until her antibiotics kicked in. She, also, said that she wished he had realized how ill she was and that a get well basket would have boosted her spirits in a lighthearted and caring way.

The cold and flu season's comin' around the corner.

Last week, my husband said, “I ache. Achoo!”

Ah-oh, bring on the liquids and Echinacea.

Here's why...

One of things most generally found in a get well basket is a crossword puzzle book or something like that. Yeah, the super duper kind that keeps them busy for a year. They can keep it right there with them, just in case they need company...while you're away.

I felt like Alice that day, with all six of the Brady kids...SICK.

Out came the flour, eggs, raw chicken, carrots and celery. By the end of the day...my hair had this white pasty glue like stuff in it and I smelled like eggs.

My husband asked me where the snow came from in the kitchen.

And my bifocals were a little lopsided after that. I'll never know what happened to that tiny screw, when my glasses came tumbling down into the get well soup.

Enuff said about that day. Believe I'll buy that can of chicken noodle soup.
